Animals cannot justify their existence by contributing to our diet, nor by providing alternative low carbon transport. They don't really do either of these things very well. They do not exist because of us, nor even despite us and our selective influences upon their genetic modification, but peacefully alongside us.

The demand of the developed world for meat and and dairy is driving global climate change faster than all transport systems. The United Nations Climate Change Conference in Bali in the first two weeks of Advent 2007 needs to face this reality. It is up to the developed world to lead the way in quickly moving away from animal farming to climate friendly vegan organic growing.

Nigel Winter, CEO of the Vegan Society, says "Our livestock create far more global climate change gas emissions than all our transport systems combined. The unreasonableness of farming our fellow animals has surpassed the human capacity to question for too long. The scientific evidence that our species has seen fit to obtain is now presenting us with clear choices between what is morally right and what is ethically wrong, with no leeway for tastes and personal preferences.

Fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, and wholegrain cereals can supply all human nutritional needs, and also reverse the effects of cancers, and other serious diseases which afflict society amongst the developed nations - diseases which are causally linked to the consumption of animal flesh, milks and related products.

Being Vegan is no longer just a question of holding all life sacred, nor admitting that other creatures are capable of reason and friendship. We pay them kindness, or we destory ourselves and our beautiful planet too. We came into being together, we live or die together, and our future is only mutually assured.
